Jackson promises to keep loving his wife forever-or at least until we’re able to drive “Buicks to the Moon.” A man serving a jail sentence implores his son to learn from his mistakes and avoid alcohol (“Walk on the Rocks”). “Who’s Cheatin’ Who,” a remake of Charly McClain’s number-1 hit from 1981, considers the casualties of adultery.
The subtle anti-booze message of “Walk on the Rocks” is blitzed by recollections of a drunken romp with a naked woman on “Must’ve Had a Ball.” Television and beer add up to an evening’s entertainment on the number-1 country single”Little Bitty,” while the artist expresses a passion for cigarettes and Jack Daniels on the title track. Elsewhere, Jackson eagerly anticipates a woman’s emotional pain (“It’s Time You Learned About Goodbye”) and succumbs to a cheatin’ heart (“Between the Devil and Me”). Disappointing.
A few positive themes, but they’re drowned out by tunes reveling in sin and selfishness. Consider CCM artist Ken Holloway instead.
