On “All I Really Want,” Morissette longs for peace, patience and calm. The love song “Head Over Feet” thanks a friend for his manners, love and devotion.
On “You Oughta Know,” the artist uses the f-word while cursing a lover who left her for another. Other profanities appear on “Right Through You” (a tune in which Alanis mention’s her date’s desire for alcohol and oral sex) and “Hand in My Pocket,” which claims no one knows the meaning of life. Catholic-bashing takes center stage throughout “Forgiven.”
Rolling Stone [11/2/95] described this album as “uncensored documentation of her psychosexual former-Catholic-girl torments.” A musical hybrid of the Cranberries and Sinead O’Connor, Alanis Morissette trades mostly on cynicism and angst, making this bitter Pill hard to swallow. Prescription: Skip it.
