On “Tired of Running” Akon laments his poor choices. The Senegal native sings adoringly of his homeland (“Mama Africa”) and expresses love for a woman (“I Can’t Wait”). He wishes to share his prosperity, and prays for God to keep Satan at bay (“Once in a While”).
“I Wanna Love You” (featuring Snoop Dogg) isn’t about love but a guy lusting for a pole dancer. That cut and the Eminem duet “Smack That” employ lewd sexual slang. The former is a play-by-play of raunchy ogling, while on the latter the artist intends to get sex from at least three different women. Lyrics include f-words and other obscenities. Peacock-proud posturing and thug violence appear on “Blown Away” and “Shake Down,” which also boasts of peddling drugs. “Gangsta Bop” warns listeners, “If you owe me or we’ve got a beef, I recommend you reach for your heat.” On “I Can’t Wait” Akon sweet-talks his girl by saying, “You’re my Bonnie, I’m your Clyde.”
Aliaune Thiam honed his “art” while doing time for drugs, armed robbery and grand theft auto. It shows. For the most part, Konvicted is typical stickered trash reeking of street cred and boasting A-list guest rappers.
