Pro-Social Content

“Reach” is a reverent prayer for direction and purpose in life, pleading for love, guidance and salvation. Likewise, “Goodnight, Good Guy” intercedes on behalf of another (“I pray the Lord to keep [and] hold you tight”), and “Shine” urges, “Oh, heaven let your light shine down.” Perseverance in hard times is the focus of “Sister Don’t Cry.” “Breath” encourages the sowing and reaping of love. The lyricist speaks from God’s perspective on “All” (“Come lay your troubles down to rest . . . my kingdom is all yours to receive”). With “Love Lifted Me” and “Heaven’s Already Here,” Collective Soul offers hope and encouragement-a refreshing change amid a musical style known for promoting despair.

Summary Advisory

According to Hints, even amidst the pain of broken and hurting relationships, there is reason to remain optimistic. Add theologically sound references to God and youngsters have a solid mainstream alternative to bands like Offspring or Bush.
