A strong profanity mars that cut and others. P!nk spews the f-word throughout, often while angrily telling people off (“Last to Know” and a hidden track). She plays up her bad-girl image on “Trouble” (“I’m trouble, y’all/I disturb my town”), “God Is a DJ” (“I’ve been the girl with the skirt pulled high … middle finger in the air”), “Tonight’s the Night”(“I hope I don’t end up in jail/But then again I don’t really care”) and “Humble Neighborhoods” (she refers to her crew as “bad people” who “do bad things”). Cocky liner photos show the singer smoking a cigarette and wearing immodest outfits. “Oh My God” is sexually explicit, and the title is repeated often. Songs also seek comfort in alcohol (“Unwind”) and embrace polytheism (“Waiting for Love”). A salacious bonus DVD compounds the problems.
P!nk prides herself in preaching independence (read: in-your-face rebellion) to disenfranchised young girls. Her language is blue. Her morals are gray. Pray teens don’t follow her lead on Try This.
