Objectionable Content

This “reformed” drug dealer still pushes junk in his raps. No fewer than six tracks glamorize substances including pot, cocaine, crack, beer and liquor. The artist expresses a fondness for “chicks that puff cheeva [marijuana]” (“It’s Like That”). Violent propaganda snakes its way through the disc’s 17 inflammatory tunes (“First gun two bullets, n—-rs know I do pull it,” “I blast for real,” “You only as good as the last n—-r you kill,” etc.). Two cuts express belief in reincarnation. But the most blatantly offensive material involves misogyny and explicit descriptions of perverse sex. Jay-Z talks about ogling girls’ breasts, oral sex in high school halls, pimping for prostitutes, and a ménage à trois with two lesbians. Deranged. Add frequent obscenities and this CD’s parental advisory sticker is more than warranted.

Summary Advisory

Jay-Z’s real name is Shawn Carter, but who can blame him for not putting it on this despicable disc? If teens embrace his views on sex, drugs and solving conflict, they’re in for a hard knock life of their own. Avoid this garbage at all costs!
