Pro-Social Content

A few isolated lines could be interpreted positively, but that’s about it.

Objectionable Content

The sarcastic “Up in the Sky” shows no sympathy for someone who’s hurting (“I heard the shine’s gone out of your life/Well that’s just too bad/Welcome to my world”). But apathy may be better than the solutions they offer. “Cigarettes and Alcohol” devalues gainful employment while suggesting that the substances mentioned in the title are all one needs in life. The tune also alludes to drug use. There’s more drinking on “Supersonic,” which drones “give me gin and tonic.” A spirit of spitefulness and one thinly disguised profanity mar “Married with Children.”

Summary Advisory

Hyped as the hottest British rock band since The Beatles, Oasis is proud of its irreverent debauchery. There’s no doubt teens should skip Definitely Maybe.
