On “Pieces,” vocalist Doug Robb refuses to give in to trials, viewing them as “a chance for me to open up and grow.” He shows impatience with one-sided relationships (“Too Little Too Late,” “Remember Me,” “Give It Back,” “Running Away”) and regrets that his youthful innocence is “Up and Gone,” leaving “a cheap and bitter imposter” in its place. “Ready for You” and “Hello Again” express a willingness to work at friendships. Separated by miles, a man can’t wait to be reunited with his woman (“Let You Know”). On “Crawling in the Dark,” the singer longs to know that his life is going somewhere worthwhile.
“To Be With You” includes what could be a sexual proposition (“Let me uncover you to rediscover you . . . On this perfect night let the two of us be one”).
With a sound similar to Creed, this four-man band weighs in on relationships and ponders transcendent issues with a sense of optimism rarely found in this grinding genre. Weird name. Good messages.
