Album Review

Pro-Social Content

Songs serve as testimonies of falling in love (“Satisfied”), exercising self-respect (“It’s All Over”), trying to mend a broken heart (“When I Remember When”) and romantic reconciliation (“Until the Time Is Through”).

Objectionable Content

Hormones rage. “When the Lights Go Out” says, “Take your clothes off/Your body looks so soft in between the sheets.” Other sexual come-ons include, “You know exactly what I wanna do/Lay you down and pursue”(“That’s What You Told Me”) and “Can you shimmy?/Can you make me feel hot?” (“It’s the Things You Do”). “Slam Dunk Da Funk” uses slang that could either refer to high-octane dance moves or sex. A guy coaxes a girl to his house for wild, parentless partying and “sexual healing” (“Partyline 555-On-Line”).

Summary Advisory

A special on the Disney Channel goosed sales of Five and gave viewers the impression that this group is an innocuous ‘N Sync clone. Not so. Their song “Everybody Get Up” warns parents, “Better lock your kids in.” Take heed. With a few exceptions, Five is out of sync.
