Album Review

Pro-Social Content

A girl seeks the answers to life’s questions from her mother on “When the Water Falls.” The “goods” desired on “Collection of Goods” include peace, hope, love and caring. According to “Simple,” the remedy for a troubled mind is to “let love seek and let love find . . . let love lead and let love flow.”

Objectionable Content

“Where the River Flows” has pantheistic leanings. A line on “Untitled” lacks faith in preachers. On “December,” the artist admits to being “Lost as you swear I am.” Also, “Bleed” takes a pessimistic view of life.

Summary Advisory

After displaying near-biblical spirituality on their first disc, Hints, Allegations & Things Left Unsaid, Collective Soul felt uncomfortable with the “gospel” image, and sought to shed it this time out. They have. For the most part, these lyrics lack the hope and uplift of Hints. A real disappointment.
