And audiences did. That’s how the movie shot to the top of the box office faster than an astrophage-powered spaceship. In its debut, Project Hail Mary earned $80.6 million in the United States. Combining earnings from the rest of the world, the movie has collected $141 million for its space-faring efforts.
That win knocked Pixar’s Hoppers down a peg. Still, the second-place finisher nevertheless munched on another $18 million. That raises Hoppers’ domestic total to $120.4 million and its worldwide gains to $242.6 million.
Dhurandhar The Revenge, an Indian action film, debuted in third place. The four-hour movie gained $9.6 million from American audiences. Worldwide, the movie has a $13.5 million cume.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come sought out first place but found itself hiding in fourth. It earned $9.1 million domestically. Adding in its weaker international performance, the movie debuted to an $11.9 worldwide total.
Rounding out the top five, Reminders of Him dropped from second to fifth following a 55% decrease in audience numbers. That amounts to a gain of $8 million, raising its domestic cume to $33.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has taken in $54 million.
As for other new releases, the kids animated movie The Pout-Pout Fish swam into ninth place after opening to $500,000. And Tow, the story of a woman struggling to get her car back from a towing company, debuted in 16th. It earned $131,000.
