TV Series Review

Most parents will tell you that there is nothing more rewarding than raising their children. They’ll also likely joke that parenting isn’t for the faint of heart.

But how can parents know that they’re doing a good job, that they aren’t screwing up their kids? What are some strategies for balancing necessary discipline with fun? How are moms and dads supposed to embrace their unique roles and strengths while also presenting a united front?

In this five-part series from Daily Wire (streaming on DailyWire+), Jordan B. Peterson, a clinical psychologist and author, addresses all these questions. He interviews real parents, asking them about the struggles they’re facing with their own kids, from toddlers to teens. And he offers some techniques to help parents address behavioral problems and teach their kids responsibility.

Of course, it starts with the parents taking responsibility themselves. But that’s a good thing, Peterson says. Because when you become a parent, you aren’t “sacrificing your freedom.” Rather, you’re giving up the part of yourself that wants to be “self-centered, miserable and lonesome” and embracing a purposeful life.

Parenting doesn’t have any big content concerns, although a few mild language issues do turn up in some episodes. Peterson offers timeless and good parenting advice. However, it’s worth noting that Peterson isn’t coming from a Christian perspective. (He has publicly denied being a follower of Christ in the past.)

So if getting theologically based parenting advice is important to you, Parenting may not be the right fit. But you can find many Christ-centered parenting articles, podcasts and more at www.focusonthefamily.com/parenting.

May 25, 2025 – S1, E1: “Parental Roles”

Jordan Peterson gives some sound advice about the different roles that mothers and fathers play in their children’s lives.

Stock footage shows children misbehaving, including a clip from a Charlie Chaplin film, in which a child repeatedly hits adults. A few b-roll clips also show some cleavage on women. Peterson helps an engaged man understand his role as a father to his new bride’s toddler.
