TV Series Review

Val Turner is just an FBI agent trying to do what’s right–but it always seems to go wrong. Ever since her husband was jailed for getting mixed up in the drug scene (or so the story goes), Val has been trying to prove her worth at the bureau. But it’s not going too well, especially now that her husband has asked for a divorce.

But Val’s focus quickly shifts after a series of bank robberies in New York City turn everyone’s life upside down. After all, she’s the only one with extensive knowledge on the mysterious, Ukrainian woman behind it all: Elena Federova.

Mrs. Federova is currently being held at Fort Totten in Queens, New York. There, U.S. Attorney General Reid Doblin, FBI director Rogelio Réal and head of Homeland Security Joan Bradbury are determined to extract every answer they need from her.

But this criminal mastermind and mercenary won’t spill her secrets easily. And it seems the only person who has a chance at unfurling this mess is Val Turner. That is, if she isn’t dragged into it herself.

What’s Another Crime Series?

NBC found success with the launch of its 2013 crime thriller, The Blacklist. So perhaps that’s why they’ve attempted to recreate it all, with different actors of course, in their newest series, The Endgame

Instead of the black-hatted Raymond Reddington serving as the show’s criminal mastermind, The Endgame finds a powerful Ukrainian woman at the head of it all. And anyone who knows her knows she’s not easily captured. So, did she allow herself to be taken in on purpose in order to work with Val? And is Val’s husband a spy working for Mrs. Federova?

So. Many. Questions.

Thankfully, if you’ve seen The Blacklist you may be able to answer all of these inquiries without having to actually watch the show. But if you do choose to watch this TV-14 series, you should know that violence is prevalent, language is scattered and the word “thriller” is a generous description.

Feb. 21, 2022–S1, Ep1: “Pilot”

Criminal mastermind Elena Federova is captured and brought into Fort Totten, New York for questioning. FBI agent Val Turner questions Elena for her own, hidden reasons.

Elena’s henchmen rob multiple banks with guns and explosives and kill a few innocent people in the process. An FBI agent gets into a shootout with a criminal and kills him and a few others. A young girl shoots a car with a grenade launcher, killing the driver. A young girl stabs another girl in the woods but moments later she and her father are stabbed to death. An FBI agent says that during a coup, an evil man raped women in order to demoralize them.

Elena wears a dress that reveals cleavage and, at one point, unbuttons some of that top to show a scar on her stomach. A few women wear crop tops.

The words “h,” “d–mit,” “son of a b–ch” and “a–” are each used multiple times.
