A Man in Full
Talent and intrigue ultimately can’t cloak the truth about this vulgar, crass and graphic drama on Netflix.
Sasha is used to functional. It’s all she’s ever known. Her mother always had everything under control, and she raised Sasha in her mold. But after her mom passes away, she’s forced to go and live with her dad, Brian, in Atlanta.
But Brian is anything but functional.
The owner of his own inherited cosmetic company, BAY Cosmetics, Brian is accustomed to the life of a bachelor.
He lives with his marijuana-smoking father, Pops, and sister, Chelsea. He works around the clock and usually spends his free time at a club or with whatever female flavor of the week strikes his fancy.
But that doesn’t really suit a dad. At least, not a good one. And if Brian intends to crush this whole parenting thing, he’ll have to put his own interests aside to truly connect with his daughter.
An all-new, TV-14 Netflix original, Dad, Stop Embarrassing Me! features Jamie Foxx as a dysfunctional dad who has a whole lot to learn about the art of parenting.
And he does learn some things, like the importance of selflessness and boundaries. And while those moments can be sweet, there’s plenty of muck to wade through to get there.
Parents and kids alike (although mostly parents and other adults) make jokes about sex (and we even see a little bit of risqué behavior on screen) and there’s plenty of marijuana and profane language passed round as well. But I think the biggest problem here is that most of the adults portrayed are never those that you’d want raising your kids.
Brian and his daughter, Sasha, go to counseling to try and figure out why they can’t get along.
Brian and Sasha’s therapist is really a sex therapist who misunderstands why they’re at counseling. She makes numerous, inappropriate jokes about incest, threesomes and other sexual jokes. She also consumes hard liquor and insinuates that she wants to have sex with Brian.
Sasha walks in on her dad in bed with a naked woman (who is covered by blankets) and calls her a derogatory name. Two people make out and make jokes about sadomasochism. An older man flirts with a younger woman and attempts to manipulate her. An elderly man mentions once wearing a speedo.
Brian’s father and sister smoke marijuana in Brian’s house–marijuana that they got from a police officer and family friend. Brian asks his father why he can’t just get drunk and pass out like normal dads.
God’s name is misused three times, paired with “d–n” and Jesus’ name is misused once. The s-word is used a few times. Other profanity includes a few utterances each of “h—” and “a–.”
A few people make jokes about racist insinuations and bodily fluids.
