The Disney Channel made-for-TV-and-DVD teen comedy StarStruck tells the story of a small-town girl named Jessica Olson. Fed up with her older sister’s obsessive antics over teen sensation Christopher Wilde, Jessica wants nothing to do with the world of music celebrity. But on a family trip to California, Jess gets dragged along to a downtown concert anyway. And after an accidental bump on the head she ends up being taken to the emergency room by the cute, blond-haired pop star himself.
Jessica tries to run in the opposite direction, but a rabid paparazzi keep throwing the two together. And after a day of ducking from cameras, the disguised duo start to see a different side to each other. Maybe the easy-smiling Christopher isn’t so self-centered after all. And Chris soon realizes that Jessica has something to offer that he hasn’t seen in other girls his age: honesty. Only time will tell if a true relationship can make it through the bulb-flashing craziness of the Hollywood media scene.
This cute musical tale is tailor-made for the tween and teen young-romance crowd. And between the bouncy songs and puppy dog eyes, there are some good lessons here about the value of honesty, humility and strength of character. But the cinematic sappiness can be a bit thick at times and the script a little predictable.
