Daughter of King Ptolemy, Pharaoh of ancient Egypt, teenage Cleopatra, also known as “Cleo,” is living the easy life. Premade meals? Check. Fancy dresses? Check. Exquisite headgear and jewelry galore?. Check and check.

Cleopatra doesn’t have a care in the world, until her dad brings up the fact that one day, she will rule ancient Egypt; countless people will be depending on her. But responsibility? That cramps her style. She’d rather just have daring adventures and get in a few kitty snuggles before her days end. I mean, who even cares about the future?

One day, while snooping around an old burial ground, Cleopatra finds a slab of rock covered in mysterious hieroglyphics. And as she runs her hand along the surface, she’s suddenly sucked into a portal that blasts her into space

30,000 years into the future. She lands in a place called the Nile Galaxy, where talking cats rule and cyborgs are the new humans. It’s been prophesied that Cleopatra is to be the savior of the Nile galaxy and rescue the inhabitants from the evil overlord, Octavian.

Sure, Cleopatra isn’t exactly “savior” material in the eyes of some. Even she’s not so keen on the concept. But that’s not what her new friends think: Kehnsu the cat is convinced that Cleopatra is the galaxy’s heroine. And Akila, a fish girl from another planet, along with Brian the cyborg teenage boy, agree with Khensu’s estimation. Together, these three enroll Cleopatra in the local training program at Pharaoh Yasiro’s Research Academy And Military Initiative of Defense, or P.Y.R.A.M.I.D., to help her realize her full potential and hopefully return her to the past… after she saves the future.

Ancient Programming

Landing on NBC’s newest streaming service, Peacock, Cleopatra in Space is an animated TV series based on the graphic novel series of the same name.

This TV-Y7 show features the importance of hard work, friendship and believing in yourself.

Yes, there is technically an evil overlord constantly attempting to thwart Cleopatra’s prophetic destination, so we’ve got some conflict and war going on here. Attitudes might flair every now and then, leading to some mild insults. And while this show isn’t particularly spiritual, it does have some magic and, obviously, the prophecy surrounding Cleo.

But young viewers will note that Cleopatra isn’t to be underestimated. And even though she can be impulsive and insecure, she’s got a big heart and a thirst for adventure, and her close friends help her to realize that she is capable of taking on any challenge in the intergalactic world. And that may be a good lesson for the princesses in your galaxy.
