Conclusion

Pro-social Content

Hatebreed’s "I Will Be Heard" seeks to bounce back from trials and injustice ("Now is the time . . . to rise to my feet/Wipe the spit from my face/Wipe these tears from my eyes/I’ve got to take my life back"). While Gavin Rossdale’s "Adrenaline" challenges teens to live on the edge . . .

Objectionable Content

That could prove dangerous depending on how the song is applied (it’s one thing to live radically for Christ; it’s another to jump from one rooftop to another on a dirt bike). Of greater concern are sexual cuts that describe foreplay (Joi’s "Lick"), brag about penis size (Mack 10 on "Connected for Life"), and advocate "ho-hoppin’" and oral sex ("Truth or Dare" by N.E.R.D.). A track by Postaboy ("It’s Okay") combines liquor and womanizing. Alcohol and B-movie gore is a potent elixir on "Millionaire" by Queens of the Stone Age. Flaw pities teens "sheltered by their parents/Such an unlucky existence/Not given a chance to experience/And make their own decisions" ("Get Up Again"). Drowning Pool addresses young listeners "driven by hate and consumed by fear" on "Bodies." A drug dealer defends the trade on Pastor Troy’s "Are We Cuttin’." Garish materialism enhanced by booze is the preferred lifestyle on "Look at Me" (by Lil’ Wayne) and Big Tymers’ "Still Fly." Profanities and bleeped obscenities abound.

Summary Advisory

This 20-track double-disc features unbridled machismo. Sex. Booze. Drugs. Money. Guns. Rage. Skip the soundtrack and the vacuous film that inspired it.
