The Plugged In Show, Episode 151: What Is a Worldview? (Plus Sam Smith’s ‘Unholy’)

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 151

We spend a lot of time talking about the problems we find in movies and other entertainment. We count up the swear words, We tabulate all the salacious activity, dutifully mention any beheadings. But in some ways, these issues are secondary to something we don’t talk about nearly as much: worldview.

You can have a movie where everyone keeps their language pristine but use that language to express the most soul-crushing philosophies. You can have a movie that sheds tons of blood but still trumpets the idea of sacrifice and virtue. Worldview can be so important—and yet it’s not nearly as easily recorded in our reviews.

Our team dedicates some time to talking about worldview this episode: We talk about what it is, why it’s important and how it can impact us, for good or ill.

And speaking of worldview, we talk about a pretty poor one found in Sam Smith’s newest hit “Unholy.”

We’d love for you to join in on this far-ranging conversation (and enjoy our Pop Culture Connection game, too!) on this installment of The Plugged In Show. Then return the favor and talk to us a while as we listen. How have you tried to help your family navigate big issues? What sorts of entertainment options have sparked your family’s best conversations? Let us know on Facebook and Instagram, or write us a note at [email protected].

And as always, check out the links below to check out everything we’ve talked about.

  1. -Well if it’s anything by sam smith definitely not interested (or anything else by any solely misguided human who purposefully ignores God’s commands/ trashing the beautifully biblical concept of marriage and love between man and women only.) Just like people are not so misguidedly caught in world’s political correctness of cop hating, liberal loving politics , I will not be brainwashed into listening to the sam smiths or those who cry systemic crap. Instead I will rely on God’s truth and only God’s truth.

    1. -I hope you took more from this than just focusing on whether or not Person #2 is a man or a woman. Looking at the song’s lyrics and Plugged In’s review thereof, both of which talk about adultery and child neglect, this would be just as sinful as it would if the paramour were of the opposite sex. It would be just as unjustified then.
