Sung by a character living a double life, "The Best of Both Worlds" and "Just Like You" are fun fantasies about being an ordinary teen and a famous pop star. But celebrity has its down-side, and it's hard acting like a chameleon ("The Other Side of Me"). Girl-power anthems include "I Got Nerve" ("I would never run away when life gets bad"), "Find Yourself in You" ("Don't let anybody tell you who you are") and "Who Said" ("Every girl has her choice to lead her own parade"). A remake of Earth Wind & Fire's "Shining Star" features the line "Be a child free of sin." A dad and daughter express mutual respect and note the strength they draw from each other ("I Learned From You").
While cutting loose, "Pumpin' Up the Party" preaches, "Too late to play it safe ... it's time to lose control." Moments of infatuation with celebrity and the opposite sex feed daydreams of glamorous magazine covers and guys going ga-ga for a pop princess.
As Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus (heiress to the Achy Breaky fortune) has made a name for herself much as Hilary Duff did on Lizzie McGuire. Some good stuff here, but woven into the you-go-girl cheerleading are Teen People priorities and food-court philosophy.
