Conclusion

Pro-social Content

On the delightful "Who I Am," Andrews prefers to be identified by her heritage, not superficial accomplishments ("I am Rosemary’s granddaughter/The spitting image of my father/When the day is done my momma’s still my biggest fan . . ."). Romantic love confounds her ("Make Me Love You"), takes her breath away ("Never Had It So Good") and helps her take flight ("These Wings"). The unfortunately titled "Karma" warns a restless love, "What goes around comes around . . . what you do to others is gonna get done to you." Fending off what appears to be sexual pressure, the artist tells a boy that she needs a gentleman on "Good Friend to Me," however . . .

Objectionable Content

Several cuts with veiled sexual undertones imply weak-kneed surrender and a disregard for consequences ("Show Me Heaven," "Helplessly, Hopelessly," "Every Time"). On "I Don’t Like Anyone," the too-obsessed singer refuses to socialize unless her guy is part of the equation, though the song’s biggest problem is what sounds like a sexual invitation ("I wanna give you everything/But if I do will you think less of me").

Summary Advisory

Her music and vocals sound a lot like Faith Hill’s. With a few exceptions, her buoyant lyrics convey a certain sweetness. It’s a shame that this home-schooled teenager’s lust for life gives way (albeit subtly) to a lust for other things. A big thumbs-up for "Who I Am," the single. A marginal thumbs-down for Who I Am, the album.
