AN AUDIO/VIDEO SNAPSHOT REVIEW
I don’t usually report on TV fare, but NBC’s Secrets of the Mountain (which arrived on DVD in Walmart stores the day after it aired) is worth the detour. In it Dana James is a successful public defender who’s trying to find more time to spend with her three kids … and they could use the attention. Sometimes it feels as if the family’s coming apart at the seams. And when Dana learns that someone wants to buy a mountain retreat that was willed to her by her dear, departed Uncle Henry, she figures one last vacation to the mountains might be just what the family needs. But when she and the kids go up to finalize the deal, they quickly learn that Uncle Henry, while still dear, isn’t quite departed. He’s very much alive, in fact, and he believes that there could be treasure buried underneath his property.
Speaking of treasure, this is a gem of a television movie—a lot of fun and squeaky clean to boot. There’s a little violence on hand, but it’s still one of the most family friendly choices on the dial. In fact, this is a conscious effort by Walmart and Procter & Gamble to get more family-friendly programming on prime-time television. And if this one’s successful there’ll be more.
