Flower
All Music Guide
Much more than a mere twig on the Versus family tree, Flower was a revered New York-based indie rock band formed by Richard Baluyut, younger brother Ed Baluyut, Ian James, and Andrew Bordwin in the late 80s. While together, they released an EP and only two albums, 1988s Concrete and 1990s Hologram Sky -- each of their releases were through the Bear label, but Hologram Sky was issued in Germany only. Upon the groups breakup in 1990, Richard Baluyut formed Versus with Fontaine Toups and Robert Hale. (Ed would bob in and out of the lineup, and another Baluyut brother, James, would also join in.) Ian James and Andrew Bordwin would eventually appear in Cell and (together) in French. In 1994, Simple Machines teamed up with Bear to issue Concrete Sky, a compilation of Flowers recorded works. As something of a sidenote, Tsunami, the band led by Simple Machines Jenny Toomey and Kristin Thompson, covered Flowers finest moment, Beauty Pt. II, on a 1992 single.
